Michael R. Holley

Michael Holley is an associate at The Lanier Law Firm. Before joining the firm in June 2006, Mr. Holley served in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps.  During his service, Mr. Holley acquired significant trial experience as both a military prosecutor and military defense attorney, culminating with service as the Chief Prosecutor for the Abu Ghraib Detainee Abuse cases. As a Judge Advocate, Mr. Holley tried 15 jury cases and approximately 75 bench trials in locations across the United States, Korea, Japan, Germany, and Iraq.

Mr. Holley’s final assignment was as a Professor of Criminal Law at the Army’s Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he taught Trial Advocacy, Constitutional Law, Criminal Procedure, and Mental Responsibility and Competency. Before serving in the JAG Corps, Mr. Holley served as a Military Police Officer from 1993-1996 in the First Cavalry Division.

Mr. Holley graduated from Abilene Christian University, summa cum laude, in 1993. He received his J.D. summa cum laude from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1999. While at Texas Tech, he was Order of the Coif and received both the Fortney Award for Ethics and the Judge Meade F. Griffin Award for Outstanding Achievement.  During Law School, Mr. Holley clerked for U.S. District Judge Sam Cummings of the Northern District of Texas.

Mr. Holley and his marvelous wife Renee live in Spring with their children Sarah, Lauren, Christopher, and Stephen.
